Linder Sterling

Linder: Women were meant to be seen and not heard
Linder sterling is a British artist and musician who was born in Liverpool in 1954. Sterling is a radical feminist and is a well-known figure of the Manchester punk and the post-punk scene. She is known for her combination of images which she obtains from pornographic magazines. Through her art work Linder illustrates how women are always being objectified and their bodies seem to always be seen as commodities. All of her images represent the normal role of a women in past societies. According to a male dominant society, women were only good for cooking, cleaning, and satisfying their husband's sexual desires. The artist implicitly states that everything that's considered to be the norm for a women as to do with being inside a household, which means that according to men women were not good enough to make any decision outside their homes. Sterling demonstrates this idea by creating an image of a elegant looking women with a plastic wrap covering her mouth. This image illustrates the idea that women were meant to be seen and not heard. These and many more stereotypes were posted upon women in male dominant society. Linder created these images to demonstrate such stereotypes and implicitly believed that women were equal to men. A statement that says that a women can do a men's job.
